Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier opened the gates of Schloss Bellevue in Berlin on September 12 and 13, 2025 under the motto "A Matter of Honour-I’m in". Thousands of guests took the opportunity to visit the citizens' festival and get to know a wide range of initiatives. Including: the MobileKids road safety initiative, which sensitised children, parents and teachers to important road safety issues in an entertaining way.
The MobileKids children's traffic school in action
At the MobileKids stand, children were able to try out how to move safely in road traffic in an interactive course. They learnt what to look out for at traffic lights, how to cross the zebra crossing correctly and why it is important to also take the driver's perspective. Particularly popular: small electric Mercedes-Benz models, which the children could "drive" themselves - and thus learn directly how much attention and consideration are required in road traffic.
There were also valuable tips for parents and teachers on how to prepare children for potential dangers in everyday life. The stand not only offered fun and games, but also concrete ideas for road safety education at home and at school. A real highlight was the visit from Willi Weitzel, who many people know from the TV programme "Willi wills wissen". Just like two years ago at the Bürgerfest, he took a lot of time for children and adults.
Every year, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier invites people to the Citizens' Festival in the park of Bellevue Palace. Under the motto "Ehrensache - Ich bin dabei" ("A Matter of Honour - I'm in"), the focus in 2025 was once again on volunteers who have made a special contribution to our society. On the second day, the Bellevue palace opened its doors to all citizens - with concerts, hands-on activities, exciting talks and insights behind the scenes of the official residence. This year's partner countries and regions were Portugal and Rhineland-Palatinate, which brought culture and culinary delights to Berlin.
