MobileKids in Hungary

MobileKids in Hungary uses an interactive pentathlon to improve the road safety of primary school children - in a playful, everyday way and with a special focus on social participation.

The MobileKids programme in Hungary is highly committed to the road safety of primary school children. For several years now, the local team has been organising interactive learning formats that not only raise children's awareness, but also teach them to enjoy safe mobility. The focus is primarily on schools in the Kecskemét region - with a particular focus on children with social, health or educational support needs.

Roadshow with an educational mission: The road safety pentathlon

The core of the programme is a half-day pentathlon, which is held as part of a roadshow at selected primary schools. The children complete five themed learning stations:

  • See and be seen
  • Crossing the road safely
  • Safe journey to school
  • Travelling by bicycle
  • General mobility expertise

Interactive and playfully designed tasks await the children at each station - from movement games and knowledge quizzes to practical exercises in the traffic park set up. Upon successful completion, participants collect stamps in a personalised participation booklet.

Learning with a reward - and MoKi in person on site

After successfully completing all the stations, the children can look forward to special rewards: reflective rucksacks, helmet stickers, safety wristbands, a themed accompanying book and a personalised certificate are presented - often even personally by MoKi, the programme's likeable mascot.

Social responsibility takes centre stage

Special support is given to schools where children with special needs learn - whether due to physical or mental disabilities or socially challenging circumstances. In addition, a large school with many pupils is selected each year in order to reach as many children as possible.

Learning and development: Lessons learnt

After each roadshow, experiences and feedback are systematically collected in order to continuously improve the programme. The content of the learning stations is regularly revised and further developed in close co-operation with the Hungarian Transport Institute.

Outlook: Digital platform and regional expansion

The aim is to extend the project to other regions around Kecskemét in the future. A Hungarian-language website with the learning modules is being planned in order to facilitate access for schools nationwide and make the materials available in the long term.
